Winter Shelter

Winter Shelter Pre-Screening

The City’s Winter Shelter program provides homeless individuals a warm place to sleep each night at various faith organizations throughout Virginia Beach. Pre-screening for homeless adults (18 and older) in need of overnight shelter will be held on Nov. 19, 22 and 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Housing Resource Center, 104 N. Witchduck Road, and PiN Ministry, 1164 Millers Lane, Suite A.

The purpose of pre-screening is to help determine how many people will need Winter Shelter and identify the most vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness. It does not guarantee placement in the Winter Shelter.

The Winter Shelter will begin Wednesday, Nov. 24. After the pre-screening process, individuals will need to check in each day that overnight shelter is needed. Shelter space is limited. Spots are provided through random selection (not first come, first served). Check-in times and locations are as follows:

PiN Ministry, under a contract with Virginia Beach Housing & Neighborhood Preservation, operates the Winter Shelter program and provides participants with transportation. Participating faith organizations rotate weekly to provide overnight shelter and meals. Some organizations may also provide additional support and resources, such as toiletries and clothing.

Families with children experiencing homelessness who need overnight shelter should call the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline at (757) 227-5932, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
